MBA Leadership Program

The Monash MBA has an embedded Leadership Program that emphasises personal and professional development. The MBA Leadership program comprises four modules that are designed to specifically address each of a number of key themes throughout the course of the MBA program.

The first module, personal skills development, is conducted when a student begins their MBA. All incoming students undertake psychometric testing (personality profiles and leadership preferences) and generic skills assessment (examining report writing, argument tasks, critical thinking, problem solving skills and interpersonal understandings). Gaps in these generic skills are identified and electives such as Problem solving and critical thinking techniques are particularly recommended for students who fall below benchmarking standards.

The module also includes a number of workshops highlighting leadership capabilities such as presentation, analytical and teamwork skills. Additionally, there is a session where students identify their professional, career and personal development objectives.

The information gained from the generic skills assessment has led to a reappraisal of the learning objectives for each of the core MBA units. Learning objectives and assessment now includes specific generic skill enhancement for each of the core MBA units and the program as a whole.

Finally, just prior to completing their MBA program, students are assessed a second time to determine the level of improvement in their generic skills. Results from these tests are incorporated into a continuous quality review process.

Modules 2 & 3 consist of a series of Leadership Forums presented by prominent business leaders and Leadership Workshops comprising 2 full-day interactive experiential skill development sessions.
