MBA entry requirements

Entry requirements

  • A degree with a credit average from a recognised tertiary institution, and
  • At least two years relevant full-time managerial or professional work experience

Please note that in determining whether you satisfy the entry requirements for this course, we consider your managerial experience on a number of factors including your overall level of supervisory responsibility (for example the number of direct reports), budgetary authority and your role in organisational decision making.  Professional experience (for those working in fields such as a public accounting practice, a legal practice, an engineering firm or a management consulting practice) is based on your level of responsibility or engagement in areas such as client management, budgetary authority and organisational decision making.

For applicants without a first degree

A limited number of places are available in the MBA for applicants who have not completed a first degree but have been awarded a Monash University Faculty of Business and Economics Executive Certificate in Business with a minimum of a credit average.  An applicant for admission to candidature for an Executive Certificate in Business is required to:

  • have at least six years' business experience; and
  • have been either an owner manager or in a management/supervisory position(s) or administering expenditure in excess of $500,000 pa for at least three years; and
  • be recommended by their employer or, if self employed, provide suitable references.

Credits will not be granted in the MBA for units undertaken in the Executive Certificate in Business.

English language requirements

The minimum English language requirement for Monash Universityis

  • English is your first language, or
  • English was the language of instruction in successfully completed tertiary studies of at least two years duration

For students who do not satisfy the above requirement:

  • IELTS (International English Language Testing Service) - a minimum test score of 7.0. A score of at least 6.5 is required for each individual band.
