Credit transfer and preclusions
The maximum total combination of credits and preclusions (advanced standing) that can be awarded is four units - 2 core units and 2 elective units.
Applications for credit must be submitted by census date in each semester (31 March or 31 August).
MBA single degree program
Credits and preclusion policy
Applicants who have passed units at a post graduate level at a
recognised tertiary institution, deemed by the MBA Director to be the
equivalent of Monash units, may be eligible to receive a maximum of four
credits against the entire MBA program consisting of a maximum of 2 credits
against the MBA core and a maximum of 2 credits against the elective program
The following conditions apply:
- the unit must be deemed to have a minimum of 80 percent of similar content as the Monash unit
- the unit must have a minimum of 50 percent assessment by examination
- the applicant must have gained at least 60 percent in that unit
- the unit must have been completed within the last five years
- no credit available for the MBA capstone unit Strategic Management
- applicants transferring to the MBA from a graduate certificate, diploma or master's degree (including MBA) program who have not taken out an award are eligible for Monash MBA unit credits on the above basis. These units must have been undertaken no longer than 5 years ago
- applicants who have taken out a graduate certificate, diploma or master's degree award are eligible for these credits only if the award was granted a minimum of 2 years and maximum of 5 years prior
- applicants who are admitted to the MBA without a first degree but have a Monash Executive Certificate will not be eligible for any credits against the MBA program. However, a maximum of 2 preclusions against the MBA core program may be awarded subject to the conditions above
Applicants who have passed similar units at an undergraduate graduate level
may be eligible for a preclusion of up to two units against the MBA core.
A preclusion is where a student is exempted from having to study a particular
unit (based on prior study) but is required to study another unit in its
place. The same conditions as stated above apply to preclusions.

MBA Double degree programs
Applicants enrolling for a double degree are not eligible for any externally
awarded credit exemptions. However, they may be eligible for a maximum
of 2 preclusions against the MBA core.
Currently enrolled Monash University master degree students, in disciplines
where there is a double MBA/Masters degree program are eligible for internal
credits against the double degree program subject to the following conditions.
- internal credits will be considered on an individual basis against the prescribed 20 unit double degree program
- internal credits will only be considered for units where the pass mark is 60% or greater
Currently enrolled Monash MBA students accepted into a double degree program
must complete the 10 prescribed core units and the 10 prescribed specialist
master's degree components of the double degree. Any elective undertaken outside
of the prescribed 20 units in the double degree program will not be counted
towards that award.
